Allison Foat, Diva PR

The Boschendal Drive-In Cinema is back! The iconic Cape Winelands estate is celebrating a bountiful plum harvest this March with a series of dynamic events and activities that have been prepared for the whole family to enjoy.

The Saturday night movies currently being shown at the Werf helicopter pad are a firm favourite, running to the end of May 2021. Films to look forward over the next few weeks include the Jungle Book (2016 Live Action) on March 13, The Lion King (2019 Live Action) on March 20, and Aladdin (2019 Live Action) on March 27.

An almost forgotten part of the cinema industry, the drive-in culture has made a comeback in Cape Town and around the world since the temporary closure of countless movie-houses due to the pandemic. The Boschendal teams have once again innovated to offer visitors the iconic experience and guests can now savour a delightful evening in the glorious outdoors where screenings are enjoyed in the safety and comfort of one’s own vehicle. It’s s a festive setting with comfy bean bags strewn on the lawn for your picnicking pleasure and an array of market-style pop up stalls selling yummy traditional movie snacks like slush puppies and popcorn, and, new to the menu, juicy Angus beef burgers. In true Boschendal style there is always an opportunity for a feast and movie nights are no exception, so come hungry and browse the Farm Shop in the Werf for a an irresistible takeaway selection of homemade pies, pastries, cakes and sandwiches, plus stellar Boschendal wines, Werf gin and cocktails, and a variety of artisanal soft drinks.

Aside from the cinematic fun, a variety of festive on-the-farm entertainment options have been arranged to suit visitors of all ages, including the return of the weekly Friday Night Market and a walkabout and performance by the Ukwanda Puppet Company on select dates.

Drive-In movie nights take place every Saturday (weather permitting) until 29 May at 18h00 for 20h15, at the Werf Helicopter Pad. The cost is R250 per vehicle of a maximum of four persons and R100 per additional person. Bookings are essential via https://www.dineplan.com/widgetframe/9w5hgCTJ.
