PRESS: LAMTA presents VINTAGE JUKEBOX at Theatre on the Bay, 14 to 24 June

Allison Foat

Vintage Jukebox presented by the Luitingh Alexander Musical Theatre Academy (LAMTA) is a dynamic new dance production that opens at Theatre on the Bay on 14 June 2023, a celebration of the spirit of the Roaring Twenties, the era of the speakeasy, flappers, prohibition and jazz music!

Featuring a large cast of talented LAMTA ‘'Triple Threat' performers, Vintage Jukebox will showcase choreography by some of South Africa’s top names as Adele blank, Michelle Reid, Sean Bovim, Jared Schaedler, Liam Gillespie, Shameelah Kinnear, Brigitte Reeve-Taylor, Robin van Wyk, Ashely Searle and LAMTA Co-Director Duane Alexander. Expect a high-octane, nostalgic, retro-journey through the music and culture of the 1920’s, with a 21st Century twist. From reimagined contemporary tunes to jazzy ballads and bluesy vocals, the show offers something for everyone.

Following on the success of LAMTA’s previous hit dance productions, Vintage Jukebox promises to be another exhilarating evening’s entertainment at Theatre on the Bay. According to Director Anton Luitingh, Vintage Jukebox will appeal to fans of 1920’s culture and to newcomers of the genre. "We've worked hard to create a production that captures both the spirit and energy of the era, while also bringing our own fresh and innovative approach to the choreography and staging”. Whether you're a die-hard Baby Boomer or a curious Millennial, audiences will be bopping, tapping their feet and humming along as they are swept up into the vibe of this dynamic production.

LAMTA, headed by industry experts Anton Luitingh and Duane Alexander, is a leading Performing Arts Academy with its finger on the pulse, dedicated to nurturing the talents and creativity of aspiring dancers, actors, and singers of all ages and backgrounds. With a focus on excellence, innovation, and diversity, LAMTA aims to see its students successfully enter the multi-faceted, exciting Performing Arts arena upon graduation, achieved through an intensive 3-years of tertiary training that incorporates a wide range of classes, workshops, and performance like Vintage Jukebox and more, throughout the year.
