The Cape Town Gilbert & Sullivan Society is delighted to announce that they will be celebrating their milestone 75th anniversary with a gala concert, in collaboration with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. The gala event, An Evening with G&S, will take place on the 4th December 2022 at the grandiose Cape Town City Hall, the place where the society began its journey 75 years ago.
An Evening with G&S brings the very best of Gilbert & Sullivan operas to life. The concert is directed by one of our most celebrated Musical Directors, Alastair Cockburn, and will be MC’ed by the dynamic Aviva Pelham, one of South Africa’s most loved opera artists. The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra will accompany fourteen accomplished soloists, Wilhelm Lichtenberg, Barend van der Westhuizen, Monika Voysey, Carmen Enslin, Stephan le Roux, Graham Boxall, Nick Plummer, Sian Atterbury, David Bolton, Simon Speck, Ferdi Oosthuizen, Lara Basson, Waldo Buckle and Roche Buckle in some of the best loved melodies of all time. Highlights include "When the Foeman Bares His Steel", "I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major General", "Tell a Tale of Cock and Bull" and "Dance a Cachucha". Many of the featured soloists are reprising pieces that they have previously performed on stage. They will be supported by a choir of 50 members of the Cape Town theatre community.
Cape Town G&S is delighted to be back on the stage after a quiet few years due to the pandemic. “We are profoundly proud to be able to celebrate our 75th anniversary in the place where it all started. The Cape Town City Hall, 1947, a building of hope and grandeur, and we are aiming to celebrate this milestone in collaboration with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, presenting and celebrating what 75 years of the music and lyrics of Gilbert & Sullivan has meant to Cape Town. We hope you will join us in the Grand Dame of the City Hall with its beautiful acoustics, celebrating the food that feeds the soul of every music lover.” says Waldo Buckle, Chairperson of the Cape Town G&S Management Board.

An Evening with G&S will take place on 4th December 2022 at 19h00 at the Cape Town City Hall.
Tickets are available for R 100 - R 250 at Computicket.
Door sales on Yoko or Snapscan only - no cash will be accepted.
Secure parking on the Grand Parade is provided. There will be a bar, and programmes will be electronically provided if patrons have their correct emails listed on the Computicket site or in the Dial-A-Seat computers.
