Press: Sne Dladla presents ‘You Know That Vibe’ as fundraiser for Mom’s surgery

Sne Dladla recalls how his parents have always had his back. The talented actor, comedian and musician is now coming to the aid of his mother Samkelisiwe who is in desperate need of surgery to rectify a chronic hip ailment brought on by osteoporosis. With medical costs being what they are, Sne has decided to present three preview performances of his new one man stand up comedy show You Know That Vibe at the Kalk Bay Theatre on 29 and 30 July 2018 to raise the necessary funds. ”This lady gave me life”, he says "and the least I can do is help her in the best way that I can."

Born into a musical family that toured the country singing in choirs, it was a given that Sne would follow in the same footsteps and growing up Living in KZN, music was all around him. From singing before he could eat his supper, to getting rhythmically disciplined by his parents to the sounds of a strong mezzo soprano saying "Don't! Ever! Do! That! Again! (pause) You hear me?!” Mostly though, it's his folks’ encouraging words that ring in his ears whenever he thinks about his chosen career path - “if it's what you want and what you love, we’ll support you all the way-we love you and are very proud of you” - that are a constant source of inspiration as he continues to go from strength to strength on and off stage.

Sne’s theatre accolades include winning two Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards and one silver Standard Bank Ovation Award, and he has recently been nominated for both a Fleur du Cap and Naledi Award for his role in the Fugard Theatre’s production of King Kong.

For some a car alarm might be a monotone inconvenient irritation, but for Sne, it's the beginnings of a sweet melody. So book a seat and let him take you through how he finds music in the most unlikely places, shares his thoughts about music today and shows how a tune can lift one through difficult circumstances.

Performances are at 8pm on Sunday 29 July and at 4pm and 8pm on Monday 30 July.

Tickets cost R150 per person via 0217887257 or kalkbaytheatre@gmail.com. All proceeds will go towards Samkelisiwe Dladla’s upcoming procedure.
