In the words of producer Pieter Toerien, "The Play That Goes Wrong is the funniest play I have ever seen!” Described by theatregoers as 'Fawlty Towers meets Noises Off', this hit comedy has won every major award on the London stage, from the 2015 Olivier Award Winner for Best New Comedy, 2015 BroadwayWorld UK Winner for Best New Play, to the 2014 WhatsOnStage Award Winner for Best New Comedy.
This South African production opens at Theatre on the Bay on 3 May 2017 after a sell out season in Johannesburg and will be directed by Alan Committie, with a top notch comedy cast including Robert Fridjhon, Theo Landy, Russel Savadier, Craig Jackson, Roberto Pombo, Nicole Franco, Louis Viljoen and Sive Gubangxa.
The Play That Goes Wrong is a celebration of the best and worst of live theatre. The story revolves around the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society staging of a 1920s murder mystery, but, as the title suggests, everything that can go wrong, does! The accident-prone thespians battle against all odds to make it through to their final curtain call, with hilarious consequences.
The play was given 5 stars by The Daily Mail in London, hailed as a ‘gut-busting hit' by the New York Times and after she saw it recently, had celebrity Joanna Lumley raving, saying, “We laughed until the tears ran down our faces! It has to be seen!” This clearly is a show that is guaranteed to be hilarious from start to finish.
The Play That Goes Wrong opens 3 May and runs until 17 June, Tuesdays to Fridays at 8pm and Saturdays at 4pm and 8pm. Tickets cost from R120 via Computicket or 0214383100. Age restriction: 8+
