For a fifteenth time the magic key takes Kipper and his friends from 11 to 28 August on another adventure at the Artscape Theatre. And this time the destination is Egypt. On the banks of the Nile river Kipper and Wilma meets Cleo, the great –great grand daughter of the very famous Cleopatra and together they discover an ancient tomb. But when Cowboy Tom arrives on the scene many of the Egyptian treasures disappear mysteriously.
Oxford University Press’s prescribed work for the foundation phase learners has become an institution in Cape Town with 15 000 pupils attending annually. Krazy Katz in conjunction with Artscape produces this fun, colourful and fast moving production. Children from across the peninsula and even as far as Laingsberg, Swellendam and Saldanha attend the show.
The crafty team behind Kipper in Egypt is experienced children theatre practitioners: director Marinda Engelbrecht, scriptwriter Margit Meyer-Rődenbeck, musical director Emile Minnie, set Michael Mitchell and Juanita Ferreira, choreographer Liande Valentyn, costumes Rouve Hattingh. The cast consists of Elanza Swart in the title role, Kipper, Carel Nel portrays the American Cowboy Tom, Crystal Donna Roberts(Recently nominated for best actress at the Golden Lion Festival in Venice alongside actresses Juliette Binoche and Kirsten Steward.) is Wilma, Dean Balie
(Fleur du Cap award winner for his role in District Six) acts out several parts and Liande Valentyn is Cleo.
Kipper in Egypt will be on at the Artscape theatre from 11-28 Aug at 9:30 and 11:00. (11-14 Aug; 24-28 Aug - Afrikaans and 17-21 Aug- Eng).
