KARAMONK, a delicious and disarming new Kamishibai Cabaret, with award-winning actress Bianca Flanders, onstage at The Baxter's Masambe Theatre from 15 to 25 July 2026.

This delightful new cabaret is a mouth-watering smorgasbord of theatrical bites. Playful, provocative and genre-bending, Karamonk offers a rich feast of contemporary South African writing, sharp humour, visual sparkle and Kamishibai (traditional paper theatre).

Best described as ‘a very-saucy-almost-picture-book-reading-for-mostly-grown-ups,’ KARAMONK is a collection of new and thrilling stories by some of South Africa’s best writers. Combining the mediums of Kamishibai and Cabaret, and under the careful guidance of the inimitable Jemma Kahn, Flanders brings to life a delightful curation of tales, ranging from a clairvoyant cat, a penny polony and a deranged Air BnB guest to name a few.

Illustrated by some of South Africa’s most talented artists, KARAMONK is a hilarious, quirky and sometimes heartbreaking testament to the everyday lives of the ordinary South African, and a gentle reminder that local really is, quite lekker.

Starring Bianca Flanders (Mince Jou Hare, Krotoa: Eva van de Kaap, Annie & Helen) and directed by Jemma Kahn (We Didn’t Come to Hell for the Croissants, The Epicene Butcher and Other Stories for Consenting Adults), this production is set to win hearts, inviting theatregoers to enjoy a fresh, inventive and irresistibly pleasurable experience in the intimacy of The Masambe Theatre.
